1 Corinthians 11:23-26
"For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for[a] you. Do this in remembrance of me.”[b] In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes."
Jesus dying on a cross for you and I meant allowing his creation to murder him. The night he was betrayed He tells His disciples to take the bread and wine, as remembrance to what He would soon endure. Through Him we are saved, through Him we receive life abundantly, we enter into the Family of God.
Like my previous blog post the Lord’s plan of redemption includes a family known as the church. His heart is for us to be gathered in community to worship Him, and to love and honor each other. We were not created to live alone and away from society ( even when it sounds like its the best option *guilty ) In creating us for community He invites us to partake in communion, to put everything aside, all our disagreements our lives and sits at His table.
To remember all the good He has done for us God wants us to fellowship so that we can begin to let our hearts open up to one another in worship to our creator. Ultimately, communion is engaging in intimacy with God and the people around us, truly pursuing intimacy with the people around us and with God.
Acts 2:42-46
"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts."
The facts are there when we come together and take communion we can all come together and rejoice in the new life given to us by Jesus. We can throw everything we feel aside and truly Thank God in community for what He did.
