"Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" Mt.3:2
Why is this so important ? Why is this such an essential piece of walking in obedience?
Well, repentance is the gift of the Lord to free us from sin. (1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.")
We need repentance, mostly because it’s our shield from the enemy’s attacks. But before we go thinking that repentance is just saying 'God I AM SORRY, I'll never do *insert* ever again', we need to learn what repentance actually mean. We see in the Old Testament God letting his people know the definition of repentance and the gift it is for his people. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
The Lord gifts us with repentance to receive His love in abundance.
Repentance is actually a form of turning away from sin, saying no to sin and making strives towards sanctification.
And that to my is so crazy, the fact that my heavenly Father, actually wants to get close to me but sin is distancing myself from Him, and in order for us to break that wall and get close, He creates this thing called repentance, which in turn allows him and me to come together in love. The only thing that leads us to true love is repentance. It's not about religion it's about the connection with God, about talking to our heavenly father and admitting to our wrongs. Striving for better but not on our own power but in a relationship with others through Gods grace.Repentance is us humbling our way and submitting to Gods law, and when we do that he’ll always meet us with love
